WCPL 2023: Young off-spinner Shreyanka Patil has become the first Indian woman to be signed up for the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). The 20-year-old from Maharashtra has been picked by the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the upcoming season, which will be held from August 31 to September 10.
Patil is a promising young bowler who has been making waves in the domestic circuit in recent years. She has represented India A and India U-19 teams and was recently named player of the tournament at the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup in Hong Kong.
WCPL is a major step up for Patil, but she is confident that she can make an impact in the tournament. She said, “I am really excited to be playing in the WCPL. It is a great opportunity for me to test myself against some of the best players in the world. I am looking forward to contributing to the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ success.”

The WCPL is a six-team tournament that features some of the biggest names in women’s cricket. The other teams in the competition are the Barbados Royals, Trinbago Knight Riders, and Jamaica Tallawahs. The current champions are the Jamaica Tallawahs, who defeated the Barbados Royals in the final of the 2022 season.
The same three teams from the inaugural edition will be competing, and the tournament will again be played at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts.
