BioShock 4’s Launch is Further Away Than Expected

BioShock 4: Fans of the beloved BioShock series eagerly awaiting the next installment may have to wait longer than expected, as a recent report suggests a potential release date in 2028, marking a nine-year development cycle.

The report comes from a screenshot of a Cloud Chamber Senior Artist’s resume on ArtStation, which lists BioShock 4 as being in development since 2019 and with a projected release date of 2028. While this information has not been officially confirmed by 2K Games or Cloud Chamber, it is the most concrete indication yet of the game’s release window.

The extended development time for BioShock 4 is likely due to a number of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the game’s ambition, and the studio’s relative inexperience. Cloud Chamber was founded in 2019 specifically to develop BioShock 4, and it is the studio’s first major release.

While the news of a potential 2028 release date may be disappointing for some fans, it is important to remember that game development is a complex and time-consuming process. It is better to wait for a well-polished and finished product than to receive a rushed and incomplete game.

In the meantime, fans can tide themselves over by revisiting the classic BioShock games, or by checking out other immersive first-person shooters such as Prey and Dishonored.

What to Expect from BioShock 4

Very little is known about BioShock 4 at this point, but 2K Games has confirmed that the game will be a full-fledged fourth entry in the series, and not a spin-off. It is also expected that the game will retain the series’ iconic steampunk, art deco-inspired visuals and darker contemplative themes.

Some rumors and speculation have suggested that BioShock 4 may be set in a new and unique location, such as a space station or a deep-sea city. Others believe that the game may return to one of the previous BioShock settings, such as Rapture or Columbia.

Regardless of the setting, fans can expect BioShock 4 to deliver a thought-provoking and immersive experience with memorable characters, engaging gameplay, and a rich narrative.
