Ajit Agarkar: Former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar has been appointed as the new chief selector of the Indian men’s cricket team. Agarkar, who is 45 years old, was unanimously elected by the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) led by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar.
Agarkar’s appointment comes after a long search for a replacement for Chetan Sharma, who resigned as chief selector in February after being caught up in a sting operation. Agarkar is the first former Mumbai cricketer to be appointed as chief selector of the Indian team.
The previous salary of a chief selector was Rs 1 crore per year. However, the BCCI has now decided to raise the salary of the chief selector to Rs 3 crore per year after Agarkar’s appointment. This is a 200% increase in salary. The other selectors’ annual salary of Rs 90 lakhs will be increased, is yet to be decided by the BCCI.
Agarkar played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and four T20Is for India between 1998 and 2013. He was a successful fast bowler, taking 349 wickets in international cricket. He was also a handy lower-order batsman, scoring 1,120 runs in Tests and 1,824 runs in ODIs.

After his playing career, Agarkar has worked as a commentator and coach. He was most recently the assistant bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
Agarkar will have a challenging task ahead of him as chief selector. The Indian team has been inconsistent in recent years, and they will need to perform well in the upcoming T20 World Cup and the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
