LoL Worlds 2023 is the upcoming conclusion of the 2023 League of Legends esports (LoL Esports) season. This year, the tournament is all set to be held in South Korea. Additionally, Riot Games has implemented major format changes to the tournament compared to previous years.
The biggest change to the format is the introduction of a new Play-In Stage. This stage will feature 8 teams from the minor regions, who will compete for two spots in the Swiss Stage. The Swiss Stage will feature 14 teams, all of whom will be seeded based on their regional performance. The teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the top 8 teams advancing to the Knockout Stage.
The Knockout Stage will feature the top 16 teams from the tournament. The teams will be seeded into a double-elimination bracket, with the winner being crowned the World Champion.
The new format is designed to give the minor regions a better chance of competing at Worlds. The Play-In Stage will give them a chance to prove themselves against the top teams from the major regions, and the Swiss Stage will give them a chance to earn a spot in the Knockout Stage.
The new format is also designed to make Worlds more competitive. The Swiss Stage will allow the teams to play more games against different opponents, which will help them to improve their skills and strategies. The double-elimination bracket in the Knockout Stage will also give the teams more chances to advance to the finals.
