Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: In an interview with ThisIsGame Thailand, the developers of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have addressed how the sequel will handle experience points and save files from Remake.
Starting Level
The developers have confirmed that players will not be able to import their save files from Remake to Rebirth, but they will not be starting at level 1 either. Instead, the characters in Rebirth will start at the average level that players had them at when they left Midgar in the first game.
This decision was made to ensure that all players start the game at a similar level, regardless of whether or not they played Remake. It also makes sense from a story perspective, as Rebirth will pick up where Remake left off, with Cloud and the party leaving Midgar behind.
Save Files
While players will not be able to import their save files from Remake, the developers have said that there will be some kind of bonus for players who have a save file from the previous game.
The exact details of this bonus have not yet been revealed, but it is likely to be something like a cosmetic item or a boost to early game progression.

Overall, the developers’ decisions on starting level and save files seem fair and reasonable. By ensuring that all players start the game at a similar level, they are making it accessible to both new and returning players. The bonus for players with a Remake save file is also a nice touch, as it rewards players for their support of the previous game.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to be released on February 29, 2024, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
